"I have always thought that my way of acting is completely linked to nature. This awareness has enabled me to overcome all experience." César Manrique | La Graciosa
La Graciosa, the so-called 'eighth' of the Canary Islands, is a little island to the north of Lanzarote, part of the Chinijo-archipelago together with the isles Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste. The strait between the two islands is called El Río.
The atmosphere is of calm isolation - the island is almost cut off from the rest of the world and is scattered with windmills, hills and caverns. If you were shipwrecked on La Graciosa you could be forgiven for thinking you'd died and gone to heaven - white beaches, pure blue skies ... and almost no roads.
The best beach is Las Conchas - 400 m. of fine white sand on the other side of La Graciosa facing the island of Montaña Clara. Only accessible by 4 x 4. Spectacular view and beach.
Don't miss the last ferry back to the mainland unless you fancy a night under the stars on the beach. OK - stuff the ferry ...
